You land in Sharjah with a Grade 8 child, a US transcript and a September start already gone. Will a school accept a midyear transfer? Does the credit system carry over? Six American schools give clear answers, and each one differs on fees, rating and admission steps.
Details below come from the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) directory and each school’s own website, checked in September 2026. Confirm final fees and seat availability with the admissions office.
This guide breaks the decision into simple steps, lists real nursery schools in Ajman worth shortlisting and answers the questions parents ask most before enrolling.
Quick answer: American schools in Sharjah follow US standards such as Common Core and the Next Generation Science Standards. Graduates earn the American High School Diploma. Annual tuition across the six schools below runs from about AED 14,200 to AED 63,100. Two hold a Very Good SPEA rating and four hold Good. Taryam is the lowest priced of the six. Some schools, including Emirates American School, accept applications all year when a seat is open.
Why Expat Families Choose American Schools in Sharjah
Familiarity comes first. Students move from Kindergarten to Grade 12, earn credits and graduate with an American High School Diploma. Families arriving from North America usually avoid a full curriculum reset. Those still weighing curricula can compare our guide to CBSE schools in Sharjah.
Cost comes second. Talem’s 2026 index lists 25 American curriculum schools in Sharjah, with fees that generally sit below Dubai levels. Four more strengths stand out:
- Standards: Common Core drives English and math, while the Next Generation Science Standards guide science.
- Accreditation: US bodies such as Cognia and NEASC back the diplomas at these schools.
- UAE subjects: Arabic, Islamic Studies and Social Studies sit alongside the US program.
- University path: Students report a GPA and add SAT or ACT scores for US and UAE applications.
SPEA Ratings and What They Tell You

Two American schools on this list hold a Very Good rating. American Gulf School moved up from Good after its January 2026 review.

How to Apply to an American School in Sharjah
- Send an inquiry through the school’s online form or visit the admissions office.
- Book a campus tour and ask about seats in your child’s grade.
- Sit the placement test or short interview if the school requires one.
- Submit the full document set once the school offers a seat.
- Pay the registration fee to secure the place.
Documents to Prepare
- Child’s passport, UAE residence visa and Emirates ID
- Both parents’ passports and Emirates IDs
- Birth certificate and vaccination card
- Transfer certificate, attested if a school outside the UAE issued it
- Report cards from the last two years
Grade 9 to 12 applicants from another curriculum also need proof of equivalency and a transcript that lists earned credits. A placement test can expose gaps in Common Core math, and short mathematics tutoring often closes them quickly.
When a Tutor Helps Before and After You Apply
Children switching curricula often need a few focused sessions in English and math to settle in. A short prep window before the placement test also calms nerves for the whole family. Older students can add SAT or AP support for US university applications.
A tutor based close to your school cuts travel time and fits sessions around the school run.
